ASHA
Asha (UNDER EVALUATION) 1yr 9month old Bindle female spayed and up to date on vaccines.
Asha has been with Mastiff Rescue a little over a month after finding her way to a shelter at No fault of her own. Asha was pulled by one of our long time foster/adopter/volunteer and her family !! From her foster : Asha has already figured out morning coffee snuggles. She's going to make some lucky family very happy. Not even 48 hours here and such a lovely girl. I'm sure we'll see some adolescent angst as she gets more comfortable. Time and patience always.
The more we foster the more we learn... Asha is the fifth dog we've taken in for MRF. Every dog, every situation is unique. And we learn with every single one. This first week with Asha has been tough. In fact the first week with every foster is difficult. But I always seem to forget how rough it can get. We've had lots of potty accidents. Two dog beds murdered. A few cases of throw up with getting accustomed to a new diet. Getting to bed late at night cause we're trying to get all the dogs settled. Followed by hours of barking before she settles down to sleep. Brett was out of town when I picked her up and when they finally met she was not a fan. Panic running around the house, knocking things over, barking, cowering etc etc. So much so that I found myself nervous of what the future may hold. But as always, time and patience wins. Leash work. Privileges like sitting on the couch, Asha has to earn by being calm. She's already begun to settle down and learn how to live in a more balanced state of mind. Greg DiFranza visited us today and helped remind us of all the tools we've been given to help the process. We have faith and hope that she will continue to learn and grow and become the wonderful mastiff we know she can be. Our lives are so much richer for every mastiff that we have known and we are so grateful for the trust and faith that MRF has put in our family.
Asha has been with us for about 3 weeks now. She has started to settle in and become comfortable with our family and routine. So now begins introducing her to our pack. We take introductions very slow and focus on keeping interactions positive. So far so good. Butt sniffing, tail wagging, walking side by side. All calm and positive energy.
Update on Asha: Janice and I have been working hard with Asha and it's paying off in spades. We took her to Greg DiFranza's beach walk and she got along great with the other dogs, we introduced her to our two crazies, other neighborhood dogs, and even took her to yoga and happy hour. She's still a little skittish at times but an absolute sweetheart. I'll be a little sad when she gets adopted, but she will make some family so, so happy.
MRF WILL REQUIRE A TRAINING COMMITMENT FOR ASHA… The foster to adopt and ASHA will need to go to outside training classes and finish out by achieving the Canine Good Citizenship.
