ODIN
Odin is a big sweet boy. He is almost 3 yrs old, neutered and full of energy. Odin comes
from a home of love that experienced life changes. His previous owners had a baby
and Odin could no longer have the run of the house. As a BIG puppy, that was rough on
him and his owners. They made the decision to reach out to MRF for foster assistance.
We picked Odin up on 7/14/24.
Odin has mastered many obedience skills such as sit, stay, leave it and come. He does
well on a leash most of the time, once we are beyond our home. He struggles with his
energy getting ready for walks and immediately leaving the home.
Odin is also a barker. Everyone in the neighborhood knows we have a new
foster, Odin has made sure each person hears him as they walk by. He recently began
taking issue with visitors, especially men. Odin feels the house is his domain and needs
correcting on whom is King of the castle.
MRF sent in Mastiff Training Expert, Greg, from Kamp K9. Greg got to witness this big
guy’s pushiness and his attempts at assertive behavior. Greg helped us learn
techniques to help Odin recognize his behavior and bring it to ZERO before walking,
getting affection or treats. We worked more on his overall behavior versus obedience.
We will continue to work on accepting that guests will come into the home, that he is not
the pack leader and when/where levels of behavior are acceptable.
Odin craves affection and attention. He loves playing with his foster sister, 6 year old
Harley and is completely fine with our 3 cats. He understands boundaries like not
getting on furniture, which rooms (kitchen, office) he is not allowed in. He loves car
rides, stuffy toys, and bananas are his favorite treat. He is a BIG Lovey boy filled with
teenager excitement.
Greg Difranza PHD trainer “Odin has much more energy than a usual 3-year-old Mastiff. He
is slightly barky when people arrive, and Dana initially did not manage that well. She does have
the tools now and was demonstrating that before I left. She was much quicker to
give Odin boundaries and knew how to help his excited brain before the excitement began. She
also had to learn how to keep people from creating an inappropriate excitement level for any
dog, much less Odin. He is an affectionate lug!”
MRF requires training with all of our young dogs and we work as a time with our fosters and
adopters..to make the dogs and their humans the very best they can be.
